USRF Auctions Items to Raise Money for Injured Player Ball and book signed by Francois Pienaar

San Diego, CA (April 6, 2010) – Help support injured rugby player Michael Jones by putting in the high bid for a commemorative rugby ball and a copy of Playing the Enemy both autographed by South Africa’s 1995 Rugby World Cup winning captain, Francois Pienaar. This unique gift set not only makes for a great rugby memento but know that every cent raised through this auction will be donated to the Michael Jones Supplemental Needs Trust.In addition, the United States Rugby Foundation will match the high bid, dollar for dollar up to $1,000.“Jonesy” was seriously injured on February 27, 2010 in Ft. Lauderdale while playing loose head prop for the Boston Irish Wolfhounds. Michael began his rugby career while he was still in high school playing for the Albany Knickerbocker Rugby Club. In 1986 and 1987, while still playing for the Knicks, Jonesy was selected and played for the Upstate Rugby Union U21 select side. Also in 1987, “Brother Jones” began his rugby touring as the Knicks toured Holland. In subsequent years with the Knicks, Mike played in Canada, Ireland, England, Wales, Mexico, Sweden, Denmarkand the Bahamas. In addition to his play for the Knicks, Michael played for the SUNY Albany Old Boys, “Purple Haze”. He also toured with the Boston Irish Wolfhounds to Nova Scotia and in 1991 he played with the Junior Eagles. Not limited to Rugby Union, Mike played Rugby League with the US National Team and the New York Knights.Jonesy and his family will be coping with many challenges ahead.
