US Rugby Foundation Announces New State Governors

The US Rugby Foundation is pleased to welcome eight new State Governors who have made a commitment to volunteer their time to further develop and build grassroots rugby in America.

Assisting the US Rugby Foundation Board of Directors is the Board of Governors. The Governors live in different geographical areas throughout the country and like the Directors, volunteer their time and commit to further developing and building grassroots rugby in America.

Kevin Flynn | Washington

Kevin has worked hard to have a great network in the PNW to help facilitate the growth of rugby in the region and develop people in the game of rugby. He looks forward to using this network to bring ideas and proposals to the US Rugby Foundation and to provide support for the growth of rugby and its culture in the PNW.

Daryl Jackson | Colorado

Always up for an adventure, Daryl spent time in Wales and Northern Ireland, where he played, coached, and worked for Ulster Rugby and their youth program in Belfast. Now back in Denver, Daryl is very excited to work with Rugby Colorado and the Glendale Youth Rugby program.

Sarah Kaler | Missouri

Most recently, Sarah has been involved with youth rugby in the Saint Louis area as an organizer, coach and parent since 2012. Sarah and her husband are passionate about providing opportunities for youth everywhere to play rugby. In 2015, they established the Kaler Family Rugby Scholarship to provide financial aid to high school students who wish to continue playing rugby at the collegiate level.

Filip Keuppens | Texas

Filip has moved his way up on the field to becoming the club director of the largest men’s rugby team for the past 4 years. He is also the founder and advisor of TOLA, a 7s series used to promote regional continuity and increase participation in the tournament. His experience doesn’t just come from playing on the field though! He has been a 7s and 15s referee for numerous tournaments over the years.

Kurt Mockenhaupt | Virginia

As a player, manager, tournament director, administrator and ambassador for the game, Kurt has been a member of the DMV (D.C., Maryland and Virginia) rugby community since 1986. He was an integral part in the development of Rugby Virginia’s leagues and state high school championships, while cultivating sponsors and promoting the game throughout the Commonwealth.

Kevin Phillipson | Oklahoma

Kevin has spent the better part of the past 50 years playing, coaching, and developing rugby. Kevin currently coaches a youth program he started in Abilene TX, the local men’s team, and the Abilene Christian University men’s team. He has a passion to bring more kids to rugby, a game he has loved for so long.

Brian Silkwood | Tennessee

While Brian considers his rugby “field of dreams” his crowning achievement in the world of rugby, he continues to be the Head Coach of Sumner RFC and also coaches with the Panther Rugby Academy, previously known as USA South, under Mark Williams. Brian has rugby in his veins, but what he enjoys the most is seeing the achievements of young men and women he has coached over the years.

James Wolfinger | Texas

James’ involvement in Texas youth rugby dates back to 1993. To name just a few accomplishments: he founded St. Thomas High School RFC in 1999, on the board at STHS as the Director of Rugby, founding member of the Houston Youth Rugby Association, Co-Founder of The Stormers HS Rugby Academy, U-17 Head Coach for the Stormers, coached on the Rugby Texas U-17 & U19 programs, had a non-profit called Grow Houston Rugby, Inc.
