United States Rugby Foundation to Auction Paul Moriarty’s Welsh Jersey

July 13, 2005

San Diego, CA (July 13, 2005) – Paul Moriarty’s Welsh #8 jersey is next in the line of international jerseys that the United States Rugby Foundation is auctioning off to support its youth and high school grant programs. A picture of the jersey, along with a description and account of the test match between the United States and Wales from November 7, 1987 can be found on eBay, item #5218886470. The bidding will conclude at 10:00 am (PST) on Saturday, July 23, 2005.“Not only was Paul Moriarty a wonderful player for Wales in both union and league, I believe this jersey will bring extra value as that match was just one of a handful that the Welsh wore green in,” said USRF Executive Director Brian Vizard, who’s donating 10 jerseys he’s collected throughout his international career with the U.S. to be used as auction items. “The jersey is in great shape and I’m hoping there’ll be a bidding war for it to help us in our efforts to support the game here.”The USRF is a non-profit 501 (c) 3 organization established in 1963. Although its main focus is supporting youth and high school rugby, the Foundation also provides grants to coaches and referees; establishes international student exchanges and college scholarships, has assisted the United States Collegiate All-Americans and Boys Under-19 teams, and also provides grants to Safety and Risk Management Research. For more information about the United States Rugby Foundation, visit www.usrugbyfoundation.org.
