Dylan Lewis is a rugby natural. A countryman of Wales, the game runs in his blood. However, he wasn’t initially interested in the game until moving to the United States during middle school. He grew tired of most traditional sports and turned to rugby. He never looked back. He is addicted to the challenges the game presents and says he enjoys the pressure on the pitch. “Whilst I do find rugby fun, I often find it is the only source of stress that I can find in normal life. I enjoy the pressure of learning and creating new plays specifically tailored to beat this week’s opponent and most importantly, I enjoy the pressure I put upon myself to better myself every single day both in rugby and in many aspects of life to improve my game,” said Lewis.

Lewis played for the Pelham High School Rugby Club at both the junior varsity and varsity levels and served as a two-time captain of his team. He was selected to the New York All-Star team on multiple occasions (2016, 2017, and 2018) and was ranked by Florugby as the no. 34 scrumhalf in the United States during his sophomore season. With Pelham, he won multiple New York State Championships in both 7s and 15s (2016, 2018, and 2019). His play landed him selection to the Eagle Impact Rugby Academy Winter Camp in 2018.

When he wasn’t running around the pitch he could also be found serving as a rugby referee and assistant youth rugby coach. He graduated from Rye High School in Rye, New York with a 4.0 grade point average. He was actively involved in his school serving as the vice president and co-founder of Rye High School Chess Club and was a member of both the math and coding clubs on campus. He was a member of the National Honor Society and also earned student of the quarter on three occasions. His academic and athletic prowess has landed him the opportunity to continue his career at prestigious Brown University. He is looking forward to taking advantage of Brown’s open curriculum and navigating down a career path that will help him execute his strengths in the math and/or science field. He dreams of earning a cap for his native nation of Wales and pursuing an opportunity to play rugby at the international or professional level.

While his final high school season of rugby was cut short due to COVID-19, Dylan is eager to bring the same energy to his collegiate career and help lead Brown to their full potential. “I am excited to see what he will do,” says Dave LaFlamme, Brown University Head Rugby Coach.
