Rugby Songs!

June 14, 2025

The practice is believed to have begun in the mid-20th century, particularly among British rugby clubs, where players would gather in a pub or clubhouse after matches to share food, drink, and song. Rugby has always had a strong social component, and post-match singing became a way to bond with teammates and even opponents—win or lose. Rugby songs echo both in stadiums on game day and in pubs long after the final whistle. Variations and types of songs range from traditional and adapted songs (like “Swing Low, Sweet Chariot,” especially in England), club-specific, national anthems, and parody songs.
