Kurt Mockenhaupt

As a player, manager, tournament director, administrator and ambassador for the game, Kurt has been a member of the DMV (D.C., Maryland and Virginia) rugby community since 1986.

As a current Director of the Potomac Rugby Foundation, he has created partnerships for youth and high school rugby development with USA Rugby, State Games of America, Commonwealth Games of Virginia, Keystone Games of Pennsylvania and the New Zealand Embassy. Foundation initiatives have included sanctioned tournament management for USA Rugby and regional entities, boy’s high school rugby academy, coach & administrator development group, rugby business networking group and a regional rugby calendar.

Kurt is a founding member of Rugby Virginia state rugby organization. He helped to create the organization’s structure, risk management, coaching standards and best practices. He was an integral part in the development of Rugby Virginia’s leagues and state high school championships, while cultivating sponsors and promoting the game throughout the Commonwealth.

With Washington RFC, he played during three Final Four runs to the National Club Championships in the late ‘80s and early 90’s. As President in 1996, he oversaw the Washington’s entry into the Rugby Super League while the first XV earned a top 8 finish in USA Rugby’s Club Championships. He chaired the nationally recognized Cherry Blossom tournament seven times and Washington’s 40th Anniversary celebration.
