San Diego, CA (January 1, 2010) – What a time to be a rugby fan in the US: Forever Strong hit theatres not too long ago. Rugby has been readmitted to the Olympic Games. The Eagles qualified for the 2011 Rugby World Cup. Invictus is about to open in theatres. And the USA 7s is just around the corner.In addition, the number of youth and high school rugby players and teams continues to grow throughout the country. And because of you, the United States Rugby Foundation continues to play a significant role in that growth. With your help and generous support over the past five years the USRF has been able to:- Provide rugby balls to over 500 youth, high school and U19 rugby teams, rugby clinics, schools and community programs.- Send 10 promising young US rugby players overseas to take part in Development and High Performance courses; four of whom have already played for the US Men’s National Team while several of the others continue to climb the ranks.- Establish the Kevin Higgins College Scholarship Fund which provided partial college scholarships to 13 deserving young players over the past two years.- Raise over $25,000 for the Collegiate All-American Program.- Raise over $20,000 for the rugby community affected by Hurricane Katrina.- Fund the two-year Online High School Injury Study.- Provide Educational Grants to dozens of coaches and referees.Never before has there been a time that we need your support then right now.
