Commemorative Autographed All Blacks-Lions Jeresey Raises $2,425 for USRF Youth and High School Programs

San Diego, CA (December 16, 2005) – The commemorative New Zealand All Blacks-British and Irish Lions autographed rugby jersey raised over $2,400 for the United States Rugby Foundation from its recent auction on eBay. The jersey, signed by 30 Lions and 22 All Blacks, including respective captains Brian O’Driscoll and Tana Umaga, was donated by Scott Compton, Media Manager for the All Blacks.“It was a wonderful gesture on Scott’s part to donate this very special jersey to the Foundation,” said USRF Executive Director Brian Vizard. “The auction was a big success, raising more money than any jersey we’ve auctioned off so far. The jersey was also popular with eBay users as it attracted over 1100 visitors to the page.”The winning bid was put in by Erik Amos of San Jose, CA.“Originally I did not think I had a chance to win due to the fact I only wanted to go as high as $2,500. With the All Blacks completing a history making season of winning the Tri Nations, Bledisloe Cup, sweeping the Lions 3-0 and then finishing with a Grand Slam, I thought my max bid was way too low. I really am happy to own a piece of history even if in this country it’s not too well-known.”The money raised from the auctions goes towards the Foundation’s youth and high school ball and start-up kit programs.The USRF is a non-profit 501 (c) 3 organization established in 1963.
