San Diego, CA (January 16, 2006) – The United States Rugby Foundation reached its goal, raising just over $25,000 for youth and high school rugby from its recent Annual Campaign.“On behalf of the USRF, I want to thank all those who contributed to the campaign,” said USRF Executive Director Brian Vizard. “We have ambitious plans for the coming year, including providing 1,000 balls and 100 start-up kits to youth and high schools clubs and programs, and we wouldn’t be able to do what we do without the support of the rugby community.”The electronic campaign, the first of its kind by the USRF, commenced on Wednesday, December 7, 2005 and ended on Sunday, January 8, 2006. According to Vizard, 112 donations, ranging from $10-$5,000, were made from individuals and organizations from throughout the United States.“We know that there are generous individuals interested in supporting youth rugby” said Vizard. “An electronic campaign and the e newsletters are proving to be effective ways to reach out to them and to the rugby community at large. We are going to pursue that communication effort in 2006 and we will keep developing our fundraising efforts. The need and the opportunities to support the growth of youth rugby are vast. It is the Foundation’s role to match potential donors with worthy programs. This campaign was a very positive first step.”Along with the increase in Ball and Start-Up Kit Grants, the USRF will be increasing its funding for its other existing programs and expects its total investment for the year to be upwards of $100,000.“The success of the Annual Campaign gets us off and running for the coming year. We’ve already put our financial support behind the 2006 Rugby RIO™ High School Injury Study and will continue to look for other ways in which we can assist the US rugby community.”The United States Rugby Foundation is a 501 (c) 3 not-for-profit organization with a mission to promote and publicize the amateur sport of Rugby in the United States by making grants to organizations and individuals supporting the Foundation’s goals and by sponsoring programs that encourage the development of youth rugby and support the education and training of coaches, referees and players. For more information about the Foundation, go to its website at: www.usrugbyfoundation.org.
