March 21, 2011

San Diego, CA (March 21, 2011) – The United States Rugby Foundation announced the launching of its US Rugby Hall of Fame and Museum today. The website-based Hall of Fame will ultimately incorporate a virtual 3D experience coupled with interactive elements designed to celebrate our unique history and recognize and highlight those who pioneered and developed the game in America.“This has been a major goal of the Foundation; to create a way to truly honor and bring to life our past and current heroes of the American Rugby game,” said USRF Executive Director, Brian Vizard. “The website for our Hall of Fame is currently under construction and a landing page will be up within a few days. The initial build-out phase should be completed in three to four months. As we progress, that page will change to incorporate many interactive features and additional elements.”The Foundation formed its Founder’s Circle several years ago as a precursor to the building of its Hall of Fame. The Circle’s inductees will be carried over to the new Hall of Fame, including the 1920 and 1924 US Olympic Teams; US National Team Coach, Dennis Storer; Midwest RFU and USA Rugby Founding Member, Keith Seaber; University of California Coach, Dr. Miles Hudson; and St. Mary’s College Coach, Pat Vincent. The US Rugby Hall of Fame and Museum will be a virtual experience, web based and highly interactive. “It will be the first of its kind,” said USRF Chairman, Bob Watkins. “We anticipate global visitation. The build-out will include a variety of features such as live chat sessions with coaches, referees and players; coaching clinics; and other down loadable content.”The Rugby Foundation will be looking forward to input from the American rugby community on the content and selection process for inductees as the creation of the Hall of Fame progresses.
