Past Eagle John Mickel Leads His Team to Scrumble Glory

February 17, 2011

San Diego, CA (January 17, 2011) – The team comprised of past Eagles scrumhalf John Mickel, Jeff Mickel, Justin Findlay and Cary Duckworth are this year’s Scrumble champions after shooting a Scrumble record score of -20.While the weather and course conditions at the Siena Golf Club were ideal for low scores, this year’s Scrumble got off to a rather late start as most of the participants were getting an extended tour of the Vegas desert by the wayward shuttle bus driver.Despite the detour, the players exited the bus in high spirits, looking forward to a day of golf with old and new friends. With all the teams taking advantage of the Mulligan Package, including a length of string which cut 6-8 strokes from the scorecard, scores were coming in low for most of the teams. But it was Mickel’s team which came in the lowest on the day with their round of 52. Mickel’s team also did well in the 2010 Scrumble as they were runner-ups to the champions. For their efforts this year, each member of the winning foursome received a Gosling’s golf bag along with a dozen TaylorMade Burner golf balls. Not to mention Scrumble bragging rights for a whole year. There was a tie for second place as the teams of Patrick Casinelli, Steve Prelock, Dan Shaw and Brandon Taylor, and that of Terry Byrd, Pat Grover, Matt Godek and Mike Lyle both came in with rounds of 54, two strokes off the pace. However, Casinelli’s group, 2009 Scrumble champions, won the tie-breaker and was awarded second place. For coming in second, Casinelli team members each received a Beck’s backpack cooler and a dozen TaylorMade Burner golf balls. Each member of the Byrd foursome received a Budwesier Beer Stein and a dozen TaylorMade Burner golf balls. At the conclusion of the tournament, a nice lunch was served in the Siena Golf Clubhouse and the famous Scrumble raffle took place which featured autographed jerseys by John Eales, Michael Jones and the 2010 Tri Nations winning New Zealand All Blacks and a baseball signed by this year’s Super Bowl MVP, Aaron Rodgers.A great day was had by all and some teams have already put their names on the list for next year’s Scrumble.
