United States Rugby Foundation
to Auction Off Test Match Jerseys
San Diego, CA (June 13, 2005) - Continuing in its efforts to raise money for youth and high school rugby programs across the country, the United States Rugby Foundation will begin auctioning off test match jerseys acquired over the years by USRF Executive Director, Brian Vizard. A former captain of the United States National Team, Vizard played 22 test matches for the Eagles from 1986-1991.
"Although the jerseys bring back wonderful memories of my days with the Eagles they are much more valuable to me if they can provide some much needed funding for youth and high school rugby in the US," said Vizard, a member of US World Cup teams in 1987 and 1991. "We have to continue to expose more and more American children to the sport and hopefully the jerseys will bring in some money to support our programs."
The first jersey posted on eBay is Dean Richards #8 jersey worn at 1987 World Cup match between England and the United States. The jersey can be found on eBay, item #5207178192. The auction will run through June 23, 2005 at 10:00 am (PST).
The money raised through the auction has been targeted for High School Start-Up kits, one of many ways in which the USRF is supporting rugby in the country.
The USRF is a non-profit 501(c) 3 organization established in 1963. Although its main focus is supporting youth and high school rugby, the Foundation also provides grants to coaches and referees; establishes international student exchanges and college scholarships, has assisted the United States Collegiate All-Americans and Boys Under-19 teams, and also provides grants to Safety and Risk Management Research.
