Update on 2008 USRF Advanced Player Grant Recipient Hanno Dirksen

San Diego, CA (July 7, 2010) - 2008 USRF Advanced Player Grant recipient Hanno Dirksen continues to make a name for himself. The former US U17 and U18 player returned from IRANZ and showed his versatility at the 2008 North America 4 competition with outstanding performances at wing, flyhalf and center. He was so impressive that he was called into the USA National Team assembly in Charleston, SC and saw playing time in the Eagles match against Clermont-Auvergne.

Hanno has spent the past two seasons in Europe. His first stop was to Cornwall, England where his college side won the Daily Mail Competition at Twickenham. He also played for the local club side in St. Ives where his team found success again, winning the Cup.

Hanno’s outstanding play earned him selection to the Cornwall men’s team. Cornwall plays just three matches a year in a competition and Hanno played in all three matches. His team won two out of three.

Hanno moved to Wales and joined the Ospreys setup. He played two matches for them this past season and when he wasn’t playing for them he was playing for Welsh Premiership Club, Swansea. Hanno was voted Swansea’s Best Young Player of the Year. Swansea finished second in the Welsh Premiership League standings and ended up in the final against Neath.
